Qualifications: • Shall possess and maintain a current, active unrestricted nurse license in at least one U.S. state, District of Columbia, Commonwealth, territory or jurisdiction. All licenses shall be unencumbered and remain in effect during employment. • Shall be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing. (National League of Nursing) • Shall have one year experience in the last two years as a Licensed Practical Nurse and maintain current BLS certification. Certification must be by the American Heart Association. • Practical knowledge and skill of standard nursing principles, practices, and procedures sufficient to understand • patient disease entities and patient care plans; and to use medical materials and supplies for the purpose of carrying out the nursing care for selected patient load of critically and/or seriously ill patients. • Knowledge of EKG monitoring functions in order to observe and monitor for signs of arrhythmia and to assess monitor patterns and if needed to immediately start resuscitation measures. • Knowledge and skill sufficient to recognize deviations from normal and which warrant immediate modification of the patient care plans with delayed notification of the nurse for concurrence in the modification of the plan. • Practical knowledge of pharmacology and skill sufficient to observe and identify the patient’s physical and emotional problems relative to nursing care, medications and equipment assisted care as may be necessary to assess and develop patient care plans which meet the patient’s needs. • Knowledge of insertion techniques and protective measures necessary to perform a range of treatment procedures. • Knowledge of universal precautions, aseptic techniques, and principles of infection control in order to prevent cross-contamination and protect self, staff, and patients from necessary exposure to infectious agents. • Knowledge of and skill in the use of monitors and equipment in all critical stages of recovery. • Knowledge of human behavior and skill sufficient to understand motivations and reactions to stress for the purpose of promoting interpersonal relations with patients and family members. Scope of Work: • Serves as a practical nurse performing patient care and nursing administrative duties for outpatients in accordance with established policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines. • Performs a variety of diagnostic procedures; sets up procedure room and equipment; provides individualized patient teaching on a preventative healthcare and health maintenance. • Prepares and administers prescribed medications by oral, sublingual, intramuscular, intradermal, subcutaneous, topical, dermal and inhalation routes. • Participates in in-services and continuing education programs. • Ensure all equipment is properly cleaned and stored at the end of each work shift. Ensure preventive maintenance and routine cleaning are performed as directed. • The nurse shall provide patients with the utmost care and attention. All patients shall be assured of their privacy and personal dignity. • The nurse shall prepare all documentation to meet or exceed established standards of the MTF, to include, but not limited to, timeliness, accuracy, content and signature. Only MTF and Air Force-approved abbreviations shall be used for documentation of the patient health record.
