Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Completion of an accredited/approved Adult Nurse Practitioner program.

Experience: Candidates must have the following experience; all experience must be within the past (3) years:
•Minimum (6) months experience in advanced clinical management of cardiology patients
•Minimum (6) months experience in caring for patients with cardiovascular disease, to include experience with rhythm disorders
•Minimum (6) months experience in caring for patients with electrophysiology (EP) procedures and/or pacemaker and ICD implantation

Security: NACI

License/Certification and Training: Must hold an active, unrestricted license as an ARNP; must maintain current AANP or ANCC certification; and hold an active BLS and ACLS.



Schedule:

Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4:30pm (40 hours/week)

Occasional overtime, as needed, up to 150 hours per year

No On-Call

No Weekends or Holidays



Job Specific Details and Tasks:


The duties include but are not limited to the following:

•Provide a full range of nurse practitioner services in accordance with privileges granted by the Commanding Officer (e.g., supervise and provide general screening and medical care and examinations of patients for routine, acute and chronic conditions involving any and all organ systems; diagnose, treat, and counsel patients as indicated).
•Promotes, directs, evaluates and is responsible for the management of safe patient care to cardiology patients within accepted protocols, Nurse Practice Acts, and/or in collaboration with a physician.
•Collaborates with other health care resources to insure continuity of care.
•Participates as a member of the multidisciplinary team to assess and monitor cardiology patients.
•Knowledgeable of a variety of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment, the desired effects, side effects, and complications of their use as well as the accurate administration of the pharmacologic agent, including dosage calculations as required.
•Knowledgeable of the administrative requirements for proper documentation of patient conditions including disease progress, acknowledgement of teaching, and follow up care.
•Knowledgeable of computer operations and proficiency in the use of basic word processing, data entry and automated medical records.
•Knowledge of professional cardiac care theories, principles, practices, disease process and procedures.
•Request consultation or referral with appropriate physicians, clinics, or other health resources as indicated.
•Orders, conducts, monitor and interprets diagnostic, laboratory, pathology evaluations as applicable for the outpatient cardiology population.
•Participates, directs, and provides opportunities for staff development through in-service education as needed
•Arranges for cardiology procedures and interventions with the Radiology and Surgery Services
•Prescribe and dispense cardiovascular pharmacologic agents and non-pharmacologic therapies as delineated by the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
•Keeps abreast of latest trends, skills, procedures, and protocols relevant in the area of specialty and serves as a resource person for the medical center staff
•Utilizes and promotes approved standards of care, procedures, methods and techniques, safety precautions, and protocols in their application to the cardiology patient population in all settings.
•Promotes and participates in the delivery of patient and family health and cardiology education.
•Provides and coordinates patient-driven care in a safe, efficient and cost-effective manner, using evidence-based principles.
•Ensures compliance with standards of care and practice in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the medical treatment facility. Provides care within ethical and legal boundaries.
•Assesses patients clinically for cardiac device/rhythm related issues.
•Assist with device (pacemaker or ICD) interrogation and identification of sub-optimal programming, abnormal findings and/or arrhythmias.
•Demonstrates accountability in the management of device patients.
•Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people for the purpose of informing the healthcare team of plans/actions, for teaching/education to benefit the patient/family and organization. Effectively uses appropriate communication format in addressing professional issues
•Excellent written communication skills to perform accurate documentation, both written and electronic, of all activity in accordance with requirements.
•Ability to recognize adverse signs and symptoms and react quickly in emergency situations.
•Completes patients disability and insurance forms as needed.
•Completes orientation and competency verification programs in accordance with (IAW) unit guidelines.
•Participates in the orientation of newly assigned personnel, as appropriate.
•Serves and participates in committees, functions and other meetings as directed. Provides relevant and timely information to these groups, and assists with decision-making and process improvement. Participates in customer service initiatives, and medical readiness activities, designed to enhance health services.
•Skill in setting up, assisting and/or monitoring specialized medical equipment/cardiac studies such as IV infusion pumps, cardiac monitoring devices, Electrophysiology , ECG interpretation, Temporary & Permanent pacemakers, ICD’s, Exercise & pharmacologic stress test and/or tilt table and other unit specific equipment/studies.
•Ensures a safe work environment, employee safe work habits and patient safety IAW regulatory agencies, infection control policies, and process improvement initiatives.
•Maintains privacy and confidentiality of all patient information, including electronic, print, and conversations.
•Maintains knowledge and skills to maintain expertise in area of practice. Accepts personal responsibility for ongoing professional development related to Nurse Practitioner competence, including, but not limited to, continuing education related to prescriptive authority, health management and maintains current knowledge of trends in cardiology and clinical medicine.
•Participates in Cardiology Sections clinical research programs when appropriate.
