(Archived) Urgent Need for an NP with General and Vascular Surgery Experience

We are looking for an NP to provide coverage for six months or longer at the VAMC in Phoenix, AZ. Provider will be under supervision of Surgery Service Physicians and will be a key role in managing patients see in SICU, Surgical Wards, Surgical Clinics, Operating Room and other interventional areas of the hospital. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule 7 days a week. Hours will be between 6:30 am to 3:00 pm or 5:00 pm. The NP Provides direct care for surgical patients, along with specialized duties and responsibilities including, but not limited to: a) makes morning rounds with surgical teams; b) presents daily patient goals during multidisciplinary and ICU rounds; c) serves as ICU liaison between primary attending surgeon-surgical team and Surgical Intensivist; d) facilitates tasks including but not limited to scheduling surgery, initiating consults, requesting lab studies, X-rays and other imaging, and interpreting diagnostic test results; e) evaluates new and established patients in Clinics, Emergency Department (ED) and in hospital; f) provides continuing care and coordination of care especially for that recommended by consulting providers; g) works with Social Service to arrange post-discharge continuing care and treatment; h) discharges patients, provides instructions for follow-up and continuing care; i) provides “on-call” coverage in hospital rotating coverage with surgical residents, and other NPs and Nurse Practitioners (NPs) as determined by Surgical Services; and j) performs preoperative risk assessment for surgical patients to prepare them for optimal post-operative results and outcomes.
