Job Description

Education: •Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing. Experience: •(3) Three to (4) Fours years’ experience of correctional experience and medical, surgical or emergency/trauma experience is preferred. •Previous experience and awareness if state, ACA and NCCHC Standards is desired. •Willing to become licensed in the multiples states that Correct Care and Conmed have contracts will be required. •Participation in training to become a Delegating Nurse in Corrections is also an expectation. Licenses/Certifications: •Have and maintain current licensure as a Registered Nurse within the state. •Possess and maintain current CPR Certification Job Summary: Health Services Administrator (HSA) Support Nurse (RN) provides healthcare services to Facility inmates within the scope of his/her license to practice nursing, and at the direction of licensed and qualified physicians and mid-level providers. This RN is expected to oversee aspects of care delivered by those possessing lower level licensure or credentials (i.e., LPN, CNA, etc.) when on assignment. This RN will travel to sites operated by Correct Care Solutions and Conmed Healthcare, Inc., to assist with the training, monitoring of documentation of inmate 45 day physicals and reviews of Medication Technicians, transition of new contracts, orientation and training of new HSA's, and at times to provide coverage at sites where the HSA has resigned or absent for a limited period of time. This RN will work with the Vice President of Nursing and Program Services, the Vice President of Operations, and the Vice-President of Quality Assurance to determine needs for assignments. The job requires periods of time away from home, which may be up to several weeks, at any of the Correct Care Solutions and Conmed contracted sites. Extensive travel by car and plane is to be expected. Essential Functions: •Mentoring and education of Health Services Administrators regarding Correct Care Solutions and Conmed systems, paperwork and philosophy. •Providing and performing the duties of a site Health Services Administrator (HSA) •Oversee performing if necessary, and assuring timely completion of Facility intake screens, assuring immediate healthcare needs for inmates are achieved, and that appropriate follow-up care is coordinated. Performing if necessary nursing assessments and treatments according to defined nursing protocols or physician/mid-level orders. •Implementing and/or coordinating provider orders, including administration of prescription medication, application of surgical dressings and bandages, specialty and subspecialty referrals, IV therapy, and other medical interventions, as ordered. •Responding to emergent or urgent medical situations, and performing emergency first aid and CPR, as indicated. •Providing patient education, as indicated and coordinating inmate discharge planning procedures. •Documenting all medical encounters in the medical record using appropriate SOAP noting format. •Evaluating patient health status and assuring appropriate documentation in patient charts, as required. •Participating in the care of medical observation/infirmary patients, as indicated. •Performing nursing triage assessments to schedule nursing/provider sick call based on priority, utilizing approved nursing protocols and following defined Policies and Procedures. •Completing inmate transfer and release paperwork, as needed, to enhance continuity of care. •Must be able to apply principles of critical thinking to a variety of practical and emergent situations and accurately follow standardized procedures that may call for deviations. •Must be able to apply sound judgment beyond a specific set of instructions and apply knowledge to different factual situations. •Must be alert at all times; pay close attention to details. •Must be able to work under stress on a regular or continuous basis.
