Exclusive order to AMN Healthcare at a state-of-the-art 352-bed hospital in Downey, CA. Built in 2009 this hospital has 95 percent family-friendly private rooms. It includes a variety of environmentally friendly features such as large windows to allow for an abundance of natural light, carpeting made from recycled materials, use of 100 percent of fresh air and no recirculation, and paint made from non-toxic materials.
Total # of beds in the unit: 30. Average daily census: 12. Nurse to patient ratios 1:1-2 for all shifts. No Ancillary Staff. Patients range in age from Adolescents to Geriatrics. Staff works in 12 hour shifts. Unit patient population: AMI, CHF, OD, Vents, Post ops/PEP waiting to transfer. Required Certs: BLS, ACLS,Telemetry, Vent Mgmt. Patient Care Delivery System: Primary. Meds and drips administered: all critical care medications. Special Unit Procedures: Bronchoscopy. Documentation System: Computerized HealthConnect. Supplemental Staff required to float when necessary. Scrubs can be any color, RN provides their own scrubs.

Critical care nurses (CCU RNs) assist in the treatment of acutely ill patients with life-threatening conditions, in settings requiring continuous vigilance, complex assessment, and high-intensity therapies and interventions. Working with the patients and their families, ICU RNs strive to create healing, humane and caring environments while also focusing on patient advocacy, working in settings such as intensive care units and cardiac care units, where patients require complex assessment, high-intensity therapies and interventions, and continuous nursing vigilance.
