Labor & Delivery RN/OB/GYN Clinic, NAVHOSP, Oak Harbor, WA (Full Time or Per Diem)

Requirements:
Either (a) a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from an accredited National League of Nurses program and at least two years experience or, (b) a Diploma Graduate from an accredited program and at least three years experience or, (c) an Associate Degree from an accredited program and at least three years experience.
Possess a minimum of one year of experience, within the last three years, working on a labor and delivery unit.
Possess and maintain a current certification in Neonatal Resuscitation Program.
4. Staffing and scheduling
a. The L&D area operates 24 hours a day, every day of the year, including the day of observance of Federal holidays.
The contractor shall provide Registered Nurses (RN) 24 hours a day, Sunday through Saturday. Day shift (6:45 a.m. to 7:15 p.m.) Evening shift (6:45 p.m. to 7:15 a.m.).
Duties
a. The HCW shall provide MIU professional nursing care in support of the Naval Hospital Women's Health Service.
b. The HCW shall perform a full range of women's health services on site; using Government furnished facilities, equipment and supplies. Clinical activity will be a function of the overall demand for professional nursing services. Productivity is expected to be comparable to other Registered Nurses assigned to a facility of similar size and complexity and authorized the same scope of practice.
c. The Government retains the right to temporarily re-assign HCWs to other clinical areas within the facility as dictated by patient acuity or overall demand for services. Re-assignments will always be within the clinical scope of professional nursing care.
d. Routine workload is scheduled by the treatment facility. Workload results from written or verbal orders by staff health care providers. The HCW shall deliver comprehensive professional nursing services within the personnel and equipment capabilities of the facility, and for the quality and timeliness of information required to completely document the care and procedures provided.
e. Assist in defining the patient population requiring professional nursing intervention and establishing guidelines to evaluate patients.
f. Work directly with selected patients and families to develop a nursing care plan. Collaborate with other health care disciplines to provide total quality patient care.
g. Function as care coordinator to assure all aspects of patient care needs are met, to include assessment, intervention and follow-up.
h. Obtain and document patient and pertinent family history. Orient new patients and their families as required.
i. Receive patient assignments, formulate, document, and implement a nursing care plan for assigned patients and review and update them as required.
j. Check patient identification, physician's orders, and transfer information as applicable.
k. Requisition and arrange for ordered diagnostic and therapeutic services as directed.
l. Render professional nursing care to patients.
m. Administer immunizations, allergy treatments, oral, parenteral, and IV medications.
n. Direct work of LPNs, Certified Nursing Assistants and Hospital Corps (Active Duty Navy enlisted) personnel.
o. Coordinate operations in the absence of the Division Officer (a government employee).
p. Administer specific medications at designated times and in designated manner.
q. Observe patients and report pertinent data on condition and medication or treatments.
r. Demonstrate proficiency according to operating manuals when using patient care electrical equipment.
s. Chart nursing observations and ensure record is complete with all procedures and test results recorded.
t. Maintain required clinic records, patient charts, forms, logs, records, registers, and census reports and collects required statistics.
u. Perform nursing techniques for the comfort and well-being of patients.
v. Prepare equipment and assist physicians with treatment procedures.
w. Recognize emergencies and respond with appropriate protocol, e.g. resuscitation, oxygen, emergency
drugs, cardiac massage, application of medical equipment and other, as established by the medical staff.
x.. HCWs shall recognize conditions that require isolation and ensure universal precautions are
used in all patient encounters.
y. At least one of the Contractor’s RNs on each shift shall be an experienced bereavement counseling caregiver, providing emotional, spiritual, social, and physical support to those patients and their families who have recently suffered the grief and loss of a neonate or child. The HCW shall be familiar with both the developmental tasks and counseling principles of bereavement. This is part of their primary duty as a professional nurse with bereavement skill and training. The Government will provide orientation/training for the Naval Hospital’s bereavement counseling program. When there is a perinatal loss the counselor on duty (either the Contractor’s HCW(s) or Government personnel) serves as the support person for the patient and provides follow-up after discharge from the hospital. Each counselor then retains a caseload according to Naval Hospital Oak Harbor policies and procedures. The requirement for Bereavement Counselor and Childbirth Educator shall be filled by a least 2 separate individual HCWs. The Government will not accept a proposal for a single individual to accomplish both tasks.
z. HCWs shall provide periodic training/advice as required to advance the training needs of Naval Hospital staff. This includes signing training evaluations for students assigned to the Women's Health Service.
