Overview

Our Family Engagement Specialist is a Qualified Mental Health Professional responsible for the initiation of and ongoing contact and communication with patients’ families in order to obtain historical information regarding the patient and to discuss the patient's current treatment plan. In addition, the Family Engagement Specialist will provide the family with a point of contact for any patient approved requests.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling, Social Work or related field or Doctoral Degree in Psychology or related field.

Experience:

  • Two (2) years of experience working with patient’s families is required.

  • Two (2) years of experience in a psychiatric hospital or correctional facility is preferred.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • License as a Mental Health Counselor, Social Worker, or Psychologist.


Responsibilities

  1. Initiate contact with patient family members upon intake to obtain historical data, with the ability to share information with families with appropriately executed releases of information;
  2. Provide Bridgewater State Hospital specific information including visitation, programs and policies;
  3. Provide Family Notification in accordance with the patient’s wishes and his clinical and legal status;
  4. Organize and facilitate Family Support Groups at least six times per year under the direction of the Director of Behavioral Health;
  5. Ensure semi-annual meetings with the Patient’s family to discuss the patient's well-being, treatment, and progress, including but not limited to: (a) the Patient's goals and objectives; (b) the patient's medications and any side effects therefrom; (c) modifications to the Patient's treatment plan; and (d) the amount of time that the patient has been placed in Seclusion and/or Restraint at BSH.
