Our Medical Information Systems (MIS) Specialist supports, advises, maintains, and assists in the daily information technology needs for the facility. This position is responsible for all local IS technical support and the facility’s computer equipment.

Education:

  • Associate’s degree in computer science required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a computer-related field preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of work experience in a related role with experience in hardware and software operations, prefer at least five (5) years’ experience.

  • Educational and progressive work experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree at management’s discretion.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • None required.
  1. Responds to and handles technical support requests in a professional manner. Keeps staff informed of changes/updates to their computers. Logs all technical support requests in the corporate helpdesk system. Troubleshoots computer hardware and software problems and makes repairs to computers within set parameters of the IS Department and arranges repair with a designated vendor if needed. Troubleshoots local network, server and desktop computers and peripheral problems. Complies with the Rules and Regulations of the Corporate IS Department. Receives strategic direction from Corporate IS department and participates in company-wide IS initiatives and projects as it affects the local facility.
  2. Responsible for installation, troubleshooting and/or maintaining of: network equipment and infrastructure (servers, switches always – cabling on occasion), desktop PCs and all associated peripherals (printers, monitors, etc.) and software, facility phone system and related equipment and processes, A/V equipment, network copiers (network printing-related issues only); any other equipment designated as IS-related.
  3. Routinely checks computers for viruses. Runs anti-virus programs for individual desktop and network software. Updates virus definition files on a scheduled basis. Maintains software licensing records and ensures compliance.
  4. Installs computer hardware and software based on standard or specific/custom criteria, including the setup of new computers and the transfer of computer equipment from one user to another. Installs computer software on new and existing computers in conformity with software licenses and based on standard or specific/custom criteria. Supports other computer system issues as assigned by supervisor.
  5. Maintains a complete inventory of all IS equipment on campus (including, but not limited to, network, computer and A/V equipment; fax machines, printers and other peripherals) via corporate Inventory System.
  6. Installs, maintains and troubleshoots all A/V equipment. Sets up needed equipment for all conferences held at the facility. Identifies and keeps supervisor informed of potential issues with the facility computer systems. May be responsible for maintaining security, operation and maintenance of system.
  7. Tracks technology inventory.
  8. Must be able to apply principles of critical thinking to a variety of practical and emergent situations and accurately follow standardized procedures that may call for deviations.
  9. Must be able to apply sound judgment beyond a specific set of instructions and apply knowledge to different factual situations.
  10. Must be alert at all times; pay close attention to details.
  11. Must be able to work under stress on a regular or continuous basis.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned.
