Our Activity Specialist utilizes a variety of activities to guide Patients with mental and emotional disabilities through their treatment; provides an avenue through which Patients can communicate ideas, thoughts, or feelings; participates in hospital/community related arts projects; assists units and hospital with special events, holidays, etc.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor Degree in Human Services or related field preferred, certification a plus.

Experience:

  • Experience conducting art and/or other activities in a therapeutic or educational environment.
  • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
  • Willingness and ability to work weekends and evenings.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • None required.
  1. Develops curriculum appropriate for the individual patient’s pre-determined level of functioning based on completed functional skill assessments.
  2. Able to be creative in utilizing activities in all phases of Role Recovery.
  3. Conducts activities time for patients both in group and individual settings.
  4. Plans activities and special events by choosing activities appropriately for the occasion and population.
  5. Works well with and as a team with all departments and programs to meet the needs of the patients.
  6. Completes activities documentation in the electronic medical record within a specified time frame.
  7. Works with Recovery Plan Coordinators, Rehabilitation Therapists, and Substance Abuse Counselors in conducting group sessions.
  8. Must be able to apply principles of critical thinking to a variety of practical and emergent situations and accurately follow standardized procedures that may call for deviations.
  9. Must be able to apply sound judgment beyond a specific set of instructions and apply knowledge to different factual situations.
  10. Must be alert at all times; pay close attention to details.
  11. Must be able to work under stress on a regular or continuous basis.
