(Archived) Addiction Nurse Practitioner
Job Description
As a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner at Vertava Health, you will provide compassionate, evidenced-based psychiatric care to adolescent patients with mental health and substance use disorders. You will complete a psychiatric evaluation for all admitted patients, and conduct follow-up consultations as needed. You will prescribe and manage psychotropic medications for those patients who need them. You will work closely with a staff psychiatrist and other PMHNPs, as well as a multidisciplinary treatment of therapists, medical providers, nurses, and case managers.
You will assess and treat mental health issues across our continuum of care to help patients safely stabilize and build a strong foundation for long-term recovery from addiction. The ideal candidate has broad direct care experience, and knowledge of addiction treatment. You should be efficient, flexible, and eager to embrace a team-based approach that models collaborative, solution-based problem solving, and authentic communication.
Priority responsibilities include:
Admissions and Assessments
- Evaluate potential admissions flagged as needing psychiatric approval
- Prioritize patients with identified safety risk to assess danger to self or others
- Conduct a psychiatric evaluation of all admitted patients within established time frame
- Reconcile current psychiatric medications and determine which orders to continue, modify, or stop (often in consultation with patient’s outside provider)
Patient Care
- Assess and diagnose mental health disorders
- Provide psychotherapy as appropriate
- Recommend strategies to manage acute or chronic mental health issues
- Prescribe psychotropic medications and provide patient education related to intended effects, possible side effects, and anticipated duration of use
- Offer guidance in the resolution of acute mental health or behavioral crisis
Documentation
- Meticulously document assessments and observations, interventions and response, and progress towards goals
- Create progress notes for each visit and consultation
- Enter medication and action orders within the eMAR / ePrescribing platform
- Communicate verbal orders clearly to RNs, ensure orders are read back, and sign orders within 24-hours after checking for accuracy
- Review results of Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP) search
Collaborate with multiple departments, teams and stakeholders, including:
- Psychiatrist, Medical Director, and NP/PA colleagues
- Nursing Department
- Treatment teams
- Campus- and Senior-Leadership Teams
- Business development teams
- Pharmacies
- Patient families
- Local hospitals and healthcare providers
- Utilization review team and insurance companies
- Professional organizations
Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Masters degree from an accredited nursing program
- Unrestricted current PMHNP license to practice in state of employment
- Must have prescriptive authorization and XDEA license is preferred
- Broad clinical experience required, addiction treatment experience preferred
- Excellent collaborative and interpersonal skills

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to use hands and fingers, talk or hear
- Ability to sit, stand, walk and reach continually. Ability to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch frequently
- Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Close vision required to see computer monitor, read documents, and operate copy and fax machine
- Work environment is indoors and climate controlled. Occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions
