Job Description

The Chief Nursing Officer provides leadership for the nursing and professional staffs to insure consistent, high quality care delivery in a cost effective manner. The Chief Nursing Officer will develop and implement the philosophy and objectives of the department, which are keeping with the overall system mission and objectives. As a member of the Executive team, the ideal candidate will excel in a leadership role, with the ability to plan, coordinate, direct, and evaluate activities.


Qualifications

Requires a Bachelor's degree
Master's degree is preferred
Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of the facility
Minimum of 5 years management experience in hospital surgical services
Previous Chief Nursing Officer experience or Acute care surgical hospital experience preferred


Responsibilities

Responsible for coordinating and monitoring the regulatory compliance at the State and Federal levels, as well as experience with preparing and participating in Joint Commission and hospital licensure surveys
Ensures and maintains compliance with codes, standards, and regulations including but not limited to; those of local, state, and federal authorities, the Joint Commission, OSHA, and standards of Nursing Practice
Actively participates in development, review, and evaluation of decisions effecting policies and procedures, program planning, and integration of hospital goals and objectives effecting the delivery of patient care services
Provides leadership and education to the nursing staff and other patient care personnel regarding nursing practice standards and requirements
Establishes, monitors, and oversees quality management activities for patient care, treatment, and services delivered to patients
Acts as a liaison to designated medical staff members and hospital management by working cooperatively to ensure development and nurturing of a collaborative work environment to facilitate involvement and operations as appropriate
Plans, directs, implements, and evaluates computer-based patient care/nursing information systems to ensure ongoing efficiency and accuracy of data capture and nursing documentation
As a member of the senior leadership team, provides input on overall strategic direction of the hospital especially as strategies affect and are affected by nursing service delivery matters, operations, practices, and policies
Establishes and evaluates effective staffing levels based on patient census and needs to ensure adherence with established quality and safety standards/requirements; adjusts as needed
Works collaboratively with stakeholders to discuss continuity of patient care services
Directs and participates in a variety of reports and studies involving complex analysis, organizational and administrative initiatives
Develops programmatic and financial outcome measures, related tracking and monitoring systems and mechanism to integrate efforts into hospital-wide systems
Analyzes financial and operational details of past, present, and expected activities in order to identify development opportunities and areas where opportunities for improvement may exist.
Maintain current knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, federal licensing and state policies, and current nursing practice standards
Maintains knowledge and proficiency in nursing practices through continuing education, staff meetings, and workshop participation
