Our Assistant Director of Nursing is charged with the effective management and supervision of the nursing staff and operations of the facility. In addition, this collaborates with the Chief Nursing Officer and other members of the healthcare team to ensure that all patients receive appropriate healthcare services.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or related field.

Experience:

  • Five (5) years of experience in psychiatric acute care setting with an additional three (3) years of supervisory experience
  • State license in the State of Florida, including at least two (2) years of post-licensure clinical nursing experience working exclusively with individuals diagnosed with mental illness or multiple disabilities
  • Work requires the analytical skills necessary in order to solve technical, clinical, administrative, or managerial problems that require a professional level of knowledge in a specific discipline/design relatively complex plans, systems, and programs
  • Work requires the communication skills necessary to interpret hospital policies in situations requiring preparation and presentations to hospital staff, manage the performance of employees within a diverse department, or other duties requiring a comparable level of communication skills
  • Regulatory agency knowledge including The Joint Commission, Agency for Healthcare Administration, Centers for Medicaid/Medicare Services
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with all levels within the facility, in addition to a variety of outside customers with varying interests
  • Above average writing skills
  • Must be able to thoroughly and effectively document all work performed in the position
  • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Have and maintain current licensure as a Registered Nurse within the state
  • Specialty nursing certification preferred
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain CPR certification
  1. Assist in ensuring that the health services units are staffed with nursing personnel to meet the needs of the patient population and contract requirements. Responsible for approving the nursing schedule, requested changes and requests for time off.
  2. Assist in the recruitment and retention of nursing personnel.
  3. Assist in the coordination of new employee orientation and continuing education programs.
  4. Prepares and submits reports to the Health Services Administrator in timely manner as requested.
  5. Participates in Quality Improvement (QI) and Infection Control activities and meetings as requested.
  6. Respond to a code or health emergency with standard guidelines.
  7. Responsible for ensuring that a nursing administrator is on-call for nursing services.
  8. Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the philosophy, goals, objectives, structure, and operation of nursing services.
  9. Ensures the practice of nursing is consistent with current standards and is responsible for level of care.
  10. Serves as representative for and/or liaison between nursing services and other health care providers as well as Director of Nursing and coordinates patient care with other departments.
  11. Provides guidance to the nursing staff in patient care problems and delegates responsibility within the scope of the employees' abilities.
  12. Remains visible and is responsive to all medical disciplines.
  13. Supports and participates in evaluation designed to improve work conditions and patient care.
  14. Participates and maintains good relationship with community organizations.
  15. Keeps abreast and follows through on incidents occurring on all shifts through 24-hour availability to all shifts.
  16. Ensures that reports of communicable diseases are forwarded to the local/state health authorities.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned.
