Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) - Inpatient Psychiatry Job Overview:

  • Variable shifts, including weekends and holidays, supporting services at a 24/7 inpatient facility
  • Assisting in controlling aggressive or disruptive patients utilizing Preventive Management of Disruptive Behavior techniques.
  • Assists in specialized treatment and rehabilitation of mental health patients.
  • Assists professional staff with identifying mental health and nursing diagnosis treatment patient education and disposition planning.
  • Observes, monitors, records and reports on patient's progress and documents observations of behavior, Activities of Daily Living, and therapeutic progress.
  • Institutes precautionary measures to prevent patient injury, suicide or elopement.
  • Participates in supportive group therapy.
  • Assists RN with manual restraints and application of mechanical restraints.

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) - Inpatient PsychiatryJob Qualifications:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) by American Heart Association
  • Minimum of six (6) months within the last two (2) years CNA experience in a Mental Health unit
  • Knowledge of de-escalation techniques
  • Knowledge of psychological state, growth, and developmental stages, changes in body image, and risks specific to the young adult through geriatric stage.
  • Knowledge of general mental health nursing principles and practices; mental health diagnosis; medical nursing and mental health terminology; personality development; communication process; specialized treatment techniques; psychopathology; adjustment mechanism; anatomy and physiology; normal and interviewing techniques, diagnostic nomenclature; psychopharmacology; medical ethics; crisis intervention; medical records administration and documentation and medical supplies.
