Job Description:
The Director of Infection Control shall be responsible for planning, administering and monitoring systems and procedures related to the detection and control of infectious micro-organisms within the Medical Center and for the development and implementation of policies and procedures in this area; interviewing, assessing, reassessing, follow-up and referrals as needed to prevent the spread of communicable diseases. Direct line of report is to the Director of Quality Management
Directs and provides education, training and orientation programs for hospital and clinic personnel, patients and families, and the community related to Infection Control. Provides coordination for the Medical Center’s efforts to monitor and maintain infection control standards which meet or exceed regulatory requirements and/or standards of the State and Federal Government and The Joint Commission.
The Director of Infection Control shall be responsible for performing office or non-manual work directly related to the management or general business operations of the employer or the employer’s customers. Primary duty includes the exercise of discretion and independent judgment regarding matters of significance.
Education: Associates Degree in Nursing required. Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing preferred.
Experience: Desirable characteristics include two (2) years in Infection Control in an acute care facility; proficiency in written and verbal communication, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all departments in the Medical Center and with the public. Demonstrates a clear working knowledge of infectious disease processes and their impact on the public health and statistical methods. Must be able to follow directions and to perform work according to department standards when no directions are given. Must be emotionally mature and able to function effectively under stress. Must demonstrate leadership ability to effectively delegate patient care activities.
Licenses/Certificates: Must possess a current NM license as a Registered Nurse or a multi-state compact license that allows the nurse to work in NM. Certification in Infection Control (CIC) and completion of CDC’s or APIC’s Basic Course in Epidemiology and Infection Control is preferred. BLS required.
