(Archived) LPN - CORRECTIONAL NURSING

JOB SUMMARY:

Correctional Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) will provide quality nursing healthcare to adult correctional inmates’ with-in a state prisons. Abide by policies that are established by the facility.

PER DIEM/PRN SHIFTS - 6A-6P AND 7P-6A

DUTIES:

• Complete intake assessments and obtain vital signs; document and input into jail administration system

• Triage Inmate Request for Services in a timely manner with final approval from a Registered Nurse

• Provide quality care during Nurse Sick Call – assessments can be completed under the direction of a Registered Nurse

• Medication administration

• Respond to medical emergencies

• Wound Care

• Provide health education

• Prepare off-site treatment paper work

• Medication verification – to validate medication prior to incarceration 1

• Assist Providers with medical treatment

• Conduct Diabetic clinic

• Provide care to Special needs patients/inmates – assessments must be under the direction of a Registered Nurse

• Collaborate with mental health clinicians pertaining to the mental health of patients/inmates

• Gives direct patient care

• Performs treatments and procedures according to nursing department guidelines

• Observes patients and documents information according to prescribed policy and procedure

• Keeps patient information confidential, and respects patient’s right to privacy

• Practices within the limits of the state’s Nurse Practice Act and health care facility and nursing administrative policies

• Keeps Registered Nurse informed regarding changing conditions and other pertinent information

  
  

Job Requirements:

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing

• Current CPR

• One (1) year correctional or psychiatric or medical surgical – passing and administering medication experience.

• Non-judgmental and be willing to work with a diverse inmate population.

• Nursing license must be current with no restriction

• Background Requirement: must be able to pass an extensive background check.
