Job Description

Overview

Our nurse specialist is responsible for specific units assigned and performs a variety of delegated supervisory tasks that ensures the provision of safe, efficient and high quality nursing care for psychiatric and medical patients. Specifically, our nurse specialist provides oversight for daily unit operations, supervises a variety of administrative functions and actively participates in strategic planning initiatives designed to enhance and continuously improve nursing care.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Experience:

  • Minimum experience of five (5) years in nursing leadership/management role, one to three years as clinical psychiatric and/or medical-surgical nurse.
  • Experience in a correctional setting is desired.
  • Basic proficiency in computer systems with the ability to work with word processing, data management, and spreadsheet and data analysis programs.
  • Must have the ability to pass a background check and drug screen.
  • Must have the ability to engage in a flexible schedule.
  • Must maintain a high level of discretion when dealing with confidential information.
  • Ability to express thoughts logically, in English, in both written and verbal form.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Must have a current, unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN)in the State of South Carolina or possess a multi-state compact license recognized by the State of South Carolina to practice professional nursing and maintain a current copy of license on file at the facility at all times.
  • Basic life support certification required, advanced cardiac life support certification desirable.

Responsibilities

  1. Assists the Director of Nursing (DON) in planning, organizing, directing and evaluating processes and outcomes for nursing service.
  2. Establishes goals and objectives for assigned nursing units.
  3. Plans, schedules and coordinates work for licensed and unlicensed nursing personnel on assigned nursing units.
  4. Leads assigned nursing personnel in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care.
  5. Assess resources, patient and unit needs and assigns staff according to patient care needs and acuity.
