Shift – Nights

- Prior ICU/Critical Care experience or 1-2 years in a progressive care/step-down setting
- Willing to take someone with 1-2 years of total nursing experience. No new graduates.

The Critical Care Unit is a 23 bed mixed ICU, caring largely for medical patients with some surgical patients. Other patients cared for include respiratory, cardiac (STEMI, NSTEMI, hypothermia), DKA, sepsis, and stroke patients. We are a Primary Stroke Center, Level III Trauma Center and Advanced Cath Lab services. Our model is an open ICU in which RNs float in and out of the ICU as needed for safe staffing levels on the inpatient acute care units.

Under general supervision and according to the established policies and procedures, the RN / Registered Nurse coordinates total nursing care for patients, participates in patient and family teaching and provides leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary nursing and other patient care team personnel in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical setting.

1. Maintains the standards of nursing care, policies and procedures of the system and department, also maintains an awareness of patient and family conditions and nursing care needs, including physical, psychological and social needs.
2. Administers medication and performs treatments prescribed by physician, using professional judgement in treating patients and communicating with physicians to modify care as appropriate. Institutes and assists with emergency measures for sudden adverse developments in patient such as cardiac arrest.
3. Assists physicians with special tests and procedures as needed (e.g. thoracentesis, lumbar tap, etc.)
4. Assesses objective and subjective signs and symptoms of patient, formulates nursing diagnosis that addresses the focus of nursing care to be provided to the patient, establishes nursing care plan with patient goals or critical care path with expected outcomes, implements nursing care plan, evaluates and updates nursing care plan in accordance with current patient status.
5. Organizes, direct and delegates nursing care assignments according to the needs of the patient and personnel skills, qualifications and capabilities. Coordinates nursing care of patients when scheduled for therapy, surgical intervention, or procedures by other departments.
6. Participates in orientation of new personnel, which may include student nurses, graduate nurses, registered nurses, nurse aides/assistants and monitor technicians, to work environment.
7. Participates in staff meetings and participates on committees for improving nursing care. Participates actively in rehabilitative needs of patients including teaching and discharge planning.
8. Applies the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served (i.e., infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric) as written in the department standards.

Education: Degree from an accredited nursing program
License: Must possess current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Michigan
Certification: Current BCLS certification. Specialty certifications as required.

Education: Bachelor's of Nursing
Years of Experience: Previous experience in a hospital or clinical setting. Previous ICU experience.
