Under the general direction of the Medical Surgical Manager and the Chief Nursing Officer, is responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing patient care utilizing the nursing process specific to the age of the patient population served on the Medical Surgical unit. The RN ensures that quality care is provided in an efficient and safe manner, consistent with the unit’s standards of care. The RN demonstrates performance consistent with the mission, philosophy and goals of the unit and organization; remaining flexible to changing systems; is expected to demonstrate quality and effectiveness in work habits and clinical practice; and treats staff, physicians, patients and families with consideration and respect. Supports the medical and multidisciplinary plan of care, as well as the objectives of the hospital. Refers significant information or concerns to the Medical Surgical Director.

1. Initiates and participates in multi-disciplinary care planning, interventions and evaluations.
2. Administers medications and treatments as ordered by physicians.
3. Coordinates and/or provides education for patients and significant others.
4. Provides emotional support to patients/significant others.
5.Documents interventions and patient reaction
6. Provides patient care for Infant – Geriatric population.
