Registered Nurse- Operating Room RN Place of Performance: Ann Arbor, MI

A-Team Solutions is seeking a full- time Registered Nurse - Operating Room at the VA in Ann Arbor, MI

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

5.1. Duties.

5.1.1. The Registered Nurse (RN) is a member of the surgical team and provides assistance to the surgeon and other team members during surgical procedures. The RN participates with the surgical team members in planning and implementing complex procedures under the general supervision of the surgeon and registered nurse. An RN possesses expertise in theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique and combines the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a surgeons performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.

5.1.2. Functions as a primary scrub person responsible for handling instruments, supplies, and equipment during all surgical procedures including, but not limited to: open heart, thoracic, vascular, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, otolaryngology, orthopedic, urology, plastic, and general surgery procedures.

5.1.3. Sets up the sterile field with all required items for all procedures, such as air-powered equipment, fiber optic equipment, laparoscopic equipment, microscopes, lasers, arthroscopy equipment, urologic equipment, and other operating room supplies and equipment.

5.1.4. Communicates effectively with all Perioperative team members.

5.1.5. Plans and discusses each procedure with surgical professionals and assures that all supplies and equipment are available prior to the surgical procedure.

5.1.6. Prepares, organizes, and maintains highly complex sterile surgical setups.

5.1.7. Completion of medical record documentation in accordance with VAAAHS policies.

5.1.8. After-hours and weekend call coverage ensuring the availability to cover emergent operative cases; must be able to cover emergent procedures within 30 minutes of notification. Only as needed and specified in the contract.

5.1.9. Observes and responds promptly to each stage of the surgical procedure and anticipates the needs of the surgeon by maintaining a high level of concentration for extended periods of time.

5.1.10 Knowledge of surgical procedures performed.

5.1.11. Knowledge of human anatomy.

5.1.12. Knowledge of aseptic technique and sterility.

5.1.13 Ability to prioritize assign tasks correctly based on past experience and judgment.

5.1.14. Ability to distinguish situations and decisions that are within the employees scope of practice from those that are above the employees level of expertise.

5.1.15. Performs other related duties as directed by the OR Manager or her designee.

Requirements:

  • Shall be licensed in a state, territory, or commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia. The Contract Nurse (s) assigned by the Contractor to perform the services covered by this contract shall be graduates of a school of nursing accredited by the National League of Nursing (NLN) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). All licenses held by the personnel working on this contract shall be full and unrestricted licenses.
  • RN with documentation of having Perioperative Nurse training or present Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) certificate
  • Must have current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • RN, CPR certified, and computer literate.
  • 2 years recent (within the past 12 months) OR practice
