DirectShifts is Seeking a Behavioral Health Registered Nurse to Work in BIRMINGHAM, AL

Nursing, Registered Nurse - Behavioral Health
Day

Duties:

  • Demonstrates knowledge, effectiveness, and efficiency in providing nursing care.
  • Provides a safe and therapeutic environment that ensures patient's rights are respected.
  • Performs daily documentation accurately reflecting the nursing process. Preforms Nursing Assessments and nursing interventions that reflect the patient's Treatment Plan.
  • Safely prepares, administer, documents and monitors results of medications.
  • Responds appropriately to crisis situations. Therapeutically intervenes to deescalate and calm anxious and/or acting out patients.
  • Applies and/or directs the use of physical restraints. Utilizes time-out and seclusion in an emergency situation, while following policy and procedures (P&P). Also notifies physician for orders within one hour of seclusion or restraint.
  • Coordinates completion of Master Treatment Plan (MTP) with team members.
  • Admits, discharges, and transfers patients based on physician orders and per P&P.
  • Demonstrates effective leadership skills in supervising non-licensed staff in providing quality patient care.
  • Demonstrates awareness and follows program policies to include contraband and sharps, search policy and understand the significance of enforcing these policies to promote a safe, drug-free environment.
Knowledge, Skills:
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Bachelor's Degree in nursing (preferred). A diploma graduate or an Associate Degree in nursing required.
  • Current status in good standing as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alabama.
  • Experience in a psychiatric setting/facility preferred.
  • Maintains credentials for direct patient care and has current CPR and CPI certification.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of normal growth and development of the population served.
  • New hire RN/LPN’s are required to attend 2 full weeks of New Employee Orientation on day shift, normally 8:30 am - 4:30 pm Monday through Friday. Also additional training will be provided on the unit.
  • Must successfully pass background check (includes criminal history, Child Abuse and Neglect Registry, and ABI/FBI fingerprint check) and drug screen.
