Overview:

This position is located in the Department of Labor/Delivery/Recovery/Postpartum, Maternity/Child Nursing Services at Bayne-Jones Army Community Hospital, Fort Polk, Louisiana.

May be required to serve as a medical attendant when accompanying patients in flight to designated medical facilities. On occasion may be required to be in TDY status overnight.

Responsibilities:

As a Clinical Nurse (Labor/Delivery/Recovery/Postpartum), you will:
Provide nursing services for obstetrical patients to include: observation and assessment of the condition of antepartum, intra-partum and postpartum women and pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative of obstetrical patients such as those undergoing cesarean sections, bilateral tubal ligations, etc.
Assist the Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum Clinical Nurse Officer in Charge in other patient care and administrative duties as assigned.
Complete a full psychosocial/physiological nursing assessment on all newly admitted patients.
Administer complex medications by any route as ordered within the guidelines of nursing practice.
Teach patients and family members about disease processes, normal newborn and postpartum care, pre and post-operative cares, pre and post diagnostic procedures.
Function in the role of Charge Nurse when assigned by the Clinical Head Nurse.
Qualifications:

• Degree: Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.

• Registration: Applicants must have an active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or territory of the United States.

• Experience required: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: performing routine and comprehensive physical examinations, reviewing medical histories, and evaluating behavior and reaction patterns used in the care and treatment of psychiatric patients. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for appointment to this position will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations.

This position is subject to random drug testing if the incumbent has direct patient contact or performs diagnostic or therapeutic functions. Extracts or works with patients' body fluids or tissues; prepares patient specimens for examination, performs specialized or non-routine tests on body fluids or tissue samples, or confirms patients' test results.
