POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating all phases of nursing care provided on each program. Determines staffing requirements and material resources necessary to provide care to the patients for each program. Provides supervision of, assesses and evaluates the competence and performance of the nursing personnel. Participate in the recruitment and community education process. Responsible for ensuring coordinated deliver of consumer care in accordance with established standards of care, mental health practice and facility policy, goals and objectives. The Nurse Manager may on occasion be responsible for working the unit as the Charge Nurse. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY:

•Knowledge of current behavioral health concepts, principles and methods of treatment


•Ability to supervise other nursing staff in a healthcare setting


•Knowledge of code procedures


•Knowledge of all facets of consumer care, nursing, and clinical systems


•Knowledge of psychiatric and medical nursing procedures


•Knowledge of The Joint Commission , CMS, and OSHA regulations


SPECIFIC ELEMENTS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS* Consistent with the ANA/APNA Scope and Standards of Practice for Psychiatric Mental Health Nurses, duties will include but are not limited to:

1. Demonstrates expertise in mental health promotion and maintenance of high quality, comprehensive patient care.

2. Assumes responsibility for the counseling and evaluation of nursing staff in an objective, consistent and timely manner.
