Experience & Requirements

1. 1-2 years of CNA experience preferred
2. Current basic life support (BLS) certification required
3. Completion of medication certification from an approved CMT program provider, as required by state law.
4. Remains knowledgeable about specific state laws and regulations governing practice.
5. Certified by professional organization in the state. Subject to initial and ongoing security clearance requirements.
6. Requires critical thinking, organizational, decisive judgement, communication, good customer service skills. Must be able to handle multiple tasks, be able to work in a stressful environmental and take appropriate actions as needed.
7. Must always follow YesCare and departmental policies and procedures and complete YesCare internal CMT training.
8. Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
9. Satisfactory completion of initial and annual clinical competencies to demonstrate aptitude as assigned by role.

A background check, security clearance and drug screening are required for this role.

Responsibilities

Delivers quality medication administration services consistent within the scope of practice as outlined by the Department of Health and Senior Services. Responsible for tasks, activities, and functions as delegated.

1. Administration of medication by the following routes: oral, rectal, vaginal, optic, ophthalmic, nasal, topical, transdermal, buccal, sublingual, aerosol, nebulizer, and oral metered dose inhalers.

a. The administration of controlled substances cannot be administered under any circumstance, nor will the Certified Medication Technician (CMT) draw up insulin.

b. Prefilled insulin syringes from a pharmacy or an insulin pen prefilled by the manufacturer is permitted.

1. Document medication administration, side effects of medication (if any should occur), refusals, and counseling.
2. Pre-package medications for administration in areas outside medical unit as required.
3. Issue Keep on Person (KOP) medications, if applicable.
4. Count controlled substances with oversight by RN or LPN.
5. Communicate with RN/LPN regarding medication concerns such as adverse effects, non-compliance, or potential safety issues.
6. Reporting of medication errors or potential medication errors to RN/LPN.
7. Performs delegated tasks, activities and functions that are consistent with prior educational preparation and within scope of practice.
8. Provides safe and effective care and assumes responsibility for the care delivered.
9. Utilizes a problem-solving approach as the basis for their decision making.
10. Additional clinical duties to include:

a. Takes and documents vital signs, height, and weight.

b. Assists with electrocardiograms (ECGs/EKGs).

c. Measures and records intake and output.

d. Schedules appointments.

1. Adheres to safety and security policies and participates in disaster drills.
2. Follows security regulations for keys, sharps, and controlled medications.
3. Performs other duties as assigned.
