Job Description
Founded in 1873 as a Christian liberal arts college and affiliated since 1920 with the Mississippi Baptist Convention, Blue Mountain College seeks applications for full-time Psychiatric/Mental Health nursing faculty. The starting date for this position is June 01, 2022.
The position of nursing faculty is to teach and demonstrate the principles of Christian nursing as a reflection of Christ and standards of the profession. The faculty member will serve as an educator and mentor in the classroom, laboratory, simulation and/or clinical setting. In addition, the faculty member will engage in contributions to service within the University and community, further one’s knowledge and practice through professional development/scholarship and serve as a voice of Blue Mountain College in recruiting students to the School of Nursing.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Serve as a reflection of Christ in one’s engagement with students, faculty, staff, administration, communities and healthcare institutions.
- Strive to develop and build a community of educators in accordance with the college policy and procedures manual, college catalogue and school handbook that is reflective of Christ within the School of Nursing and College.
- Prepare and effectively deliver educational course content that includes the syllabus, course content, presentations/lectures, tests and handouts in fostering learning in the classroom, laboratory, simulation and/or clinical setting.
- Use various educational strategies in promoting the students’ different types of learning.
- Maintain direct supervision while leading laboratory, simulation and/or clinical experiences of the students.
- Provide objective grading and evaluation processes that fosters the student’s personal and professional growth as a Christian nurse.
- Serve with other School of Nursing faculties in developing concept maps and other resources that demonstrate the school’s alignment with the mission of the College and standards of the profession.
- Serve as a mentor and advise students in their academic journey, career considerations and spiritual walk in Christ.
- Maintain accurate records of students grades and other pertinent records that demonstrates their activities within academia.
- Maintain regularly scheduled office hours in assisting students with their needs.
- Dedicate time to conducting scholarly work that gains external funding and leads to presentations and publications.
- Participate in student recruitment events, registration activities, and student placement processes.
- Serve on academic or administrative committees as assigned to address school or institutional policies, school issues or academic matters.
- Serve as an advisor in student organizations.
- Engage in patient care or consulting opportunities that supports your specialty area of practice.
- Engage in the use of educational technology in delivering educational content in the classroom or online.
- Fulfill other duties as assigned by administration, dean of School of nursing or respective chair.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Provide a written testimony and profess Christ as one’s Lord and Savior.
- Graduate degree in nursing from a regionally accredited institution, with a clinical focus and/or certification in psychiatric-mental health.
- Hold an unencumbered license to practice nursing in the state of Mississippi and meet all requirements of the affiliated clinical agencies.
- Satisfy a criminal background check.
