Mid Level Provider – IHS Gallup Indian Medical Center, Gallup NM

Place of Performance: Gallup Indian Medical Center, Gallup, NM 87301

Gallup Indian Medical Center (GIMC) is a 99-bed hospital in Gallup, New Mexico, on the border of the Navajo Reservation. Clinical specialties at GIMC include Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Anesthesia, OB/GYN, General Surgery, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, ENT, Radiology, Pathology, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Emergency Medicine, and Urology. The workload at Gallup is one of the largest in the Indian Health Service with 250,000 outpatient encounters and 5,800 inpatient admissions annually. GIMC has the largest staff of all Navajo Area IHS facilities.

The Plateaus and mountains close to Gallup offer opportunities for hiking, backpacking and camping. There are several national mountains and parks within easy driving distance. Albuquerque, with all the services and cultural events offered in a city its size, is just two hours East of Gallup. There are many choices for cross-country and downhill skiing within 1 to 3 hours of Gallup. The city of Gallup has a populations of approximately 23,000.

Period of Performance: Flexible

Shift Expectations: Schedule will be flexible and adjust based on mission/clinic needs. Every effort will be made to submit schedules at least 3 months in advance. However, at least 48hrs notice will be provided for any schedule changes.

Qualifications for NP:

  • Degree: Must be from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
  • License: Shall possess and maintain an unrestricted licensed in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or District of Columbia.
  • Experience: Minimum 36 Months of experience REQUIRED
  • Must have BLS, ACLS, PALS certifications

Qualifications for PA:

  • Degree: Must be from an accredited Physician Assistant program
  • License: Shall possess and maintain an unrestricted licensed in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or District of Columbia.
  • Certification by the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) or other nationally recognized credentialing body as a PA
  • Experience: Minimum 36 Months of experience REQUIRED
  • Must have BLS, ACLS, PALS certifications

Core Duties:

  • Perform initial and/or periodic histories and physical examinations; and documents findings, results and diagnoses in medical record per medical staff rules and regulations.
  • Manage acute, episodic, and chronic conditions occurring in patients presenting to the Walk-In Primary Care Clinic; and consult with MD/DO when patient’ disease process exceeds the providers education, training, and/or experience.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic studies such as laboratory tests, radiological exams, electrocardiograms, or other studies as appropriate and specified in the providers.
  • Screen patients to determine the need for further healthcare.
  • Evaluate the medical aspects of treatment plans periodically, recognizing the need for reassignment to other healthcare professionals or specialists.
  • Works collaboratively with the other physician in management of selected complex medical problems and refers to higher level of care when needed.
  • Prescribe and dispense medications and durable medical devices and supplies.
  • Carry out health promotion and disease prevention activities including education and shared decision-making.
  • Educate and counsel patients and families in preventive care, medical conditions, and the use of prescribed treatments and drugs.
  • Provide appropriate periodic mental health assessment, screening, and counseling for mental illness, family violence, and disease of addiction.
  • Draw blood or obtain other specimens for laboratory testing as needed.
  • Initiate and expedite requests for consultations and arrange special tests and studies.
  • Write orders as necessary for the care of the patient and record encounters in the patients’ medical records in accordance with GIMC rules and regulations.
