Job Description

Established University is seeking a candidate to be the Department Chair of Physician Assistant Studies for a new PA program in on the Central California Coast. The Chair will be part of a team now working to establish an innovative PA program. She/he will lead and manage all aspects of the educational programs including selecting faculty, designing facilities, creating curriculum, and establishing budgets. Program activities over the next year will focus on satisfying accreditation standards of both programmatic and regional accrediting bodies; fiscal and organizational management of the department’s administration; a continuous quality improvement and review process to insure achievement of high standards within the program, school, and university. The Chair will have direct supervisory responsibility for recruiting, retaining, and developing faculty and staff and will work with the local administrators and staff to further build a culture of collaboration and excellence. The Chair is a primary advocate for the program at all levels within the school, university, the PA profession, and the communities in which we work. The Chair will contribute to and promote the vision and strategic plans for assessing and achieving the goals and objectives of the program, the department, the school, and the university.

Applicants must be a certified physician assistant and must possess a graduate-level degree, preferably a doctorate; hold current NCCPA certification and/or PA licensure or eligibility in a US jurisdiction; demonstrate excellence in classroom and/or clinical teaching as evidenced by teaching evaluations; demonstrate excellence in education administration as evidenced by professional references, and must demonstrate knowledge of and experience in the ARC-PA accreditation process. Satisfying these basic qualifications should support an academic appointment at the level of associate professor level.

Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate evidence of successful leadership in physician assistant education and academic program administration.
