Job Description

Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join its rural health team in Northern Lake Michigan.

The NP/PA will work collaboratively with another advanced practice provider and off-island physicians to provide primary care, urgent care and management of acute and chronic conditions for patients of all ages. The providers also work closely with EMS when emergency services are needed.

Schedule:

  • Clinic schedule is generally three 8-hour shifts per week
  • Two APPs share on-call coverage and work together to develop the schedule
  • Shared 24/7 coverage responsibilities
  • Relief practitioners are utilized for vacation and education coverage
  • Position is salaried and full-time with benefits

Responsibilities:

  • Provide primary and urgent care to patients of all ages
  • Evaluate, diagnose and manage acute and chronic medical conditions
  • Develop and implement individualized plans of care
  • Provide preventive care and wellness services
  • Collaborate with physicians as appropriate
  • Perform occasional home visits when needed
  • Complete medical records and appropriate coding accurately and timely
  • Participate in clinical quality improvement and peer review
  • Assist with coordination of medications, supplies and clinical operations
  • Work collaboratively with the entire Health Center team

Qualifications:

  • Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
  • Must meet Michigan licensure and certification requirements prior to hire
  • Candidates may be considered while licensure/certification is pending
  • Rural health and emergency-care experience are strongly preferred
  • Ability to practice with a high degree of independence
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be flexible and comfortable working in a small rural healthcare environment
  • Valid Michigan driver's license required

Compensation:

  • $110,000 - $130,000 salary, commensurate with experience
  • Housing/condo provided for up to one year
  • $1,000 relocation allowance

The location is remote, but it is not cut off from the mainland (Plane or ferry options). Flights are only about 15 minutes and operate year-round. Seasonal ferry service is also available, and vehicles can be transported to the island.
