Job Description

Assignment Overview – Fredericksburg, VA:

  • Schedule: 3 night shifts (7P–7A) and 3 day shifts (7A–7P); must be flexible
  • Start: June
  • Duration: 13 weeks
  • Role: Nocturnist/Day coverage
  • Candidates: NP or PA accepted with active state license
  • Requirement: Must live 50+ miles from the facility (no locals)

Facility Overview:

  • ~133-bed community hospital within the HCA Healthcare system
  • Services include ICU, OB, behavioral health, and cardiac care
  • 24-hour emergency department; not a tertiary or academic center

Clinical Environment:

  • Moderate patient volume (~25,000–45,000 annual ED visits)
  • Steady pace with predictable peak times (afternoons, evenings, weekends)
  • Moderate acuity: mix of critical cases (sepsis, stroke, cardiac) and lower-acuity complaints
  • Major trauma typically transferred out

Staffing & Workflow:

  • Typically 1–2 physicians per shift with APP support
  • Physicians manage higher-acuity cases, procedures, and dispositions
  • APPs support lower-acuity and fast-track patients
  • Metrics-driven environment (HCA), with focus on efficiency and documentation

Overall:

  • Mid-sized community ED with balanced acuity and steady workflow
  • Less intense than large urban centers but not a low-volume rural site
