(Archived) Family Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
Job Description
Out-patient clinics in southwestern Oregon needs a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
Our client is recruiting for an opening in our thriving, growing organization. We are an independent, physician owned practice consisting of 11 family physicians and 10 non-physician providers in 4 locations in the Eugene-Springfield metropolitan area in Lane County, Oregon.
After-hours call is shared by everyone, so it’s currently about 1-2 days per month each. The more providers there are, the less call. We are open until 8:00 p.m. each evening, so call does not begin until after that and is rarely very difficult. We also have a large staff of behavioral health providers at all our locations, including a psychologist, several social workers and family and marriage counselors
For mid-levels working in the practice: We typically start a new grad mid-level at about $91,000 per year (salary goes up with experience). They are subject to yearly raises if everything works out. We also provide health insurance and a generous pension plan. But we have a bonus program that is based on how much work they do, and can bring additional income of $20,000 per year or more, depending on volume of patients. Again, we don’t push anyone beyond their “comfort level” in terms of numbers of patients. But to do well financially, they need to eventually be able to see between 16 and 22 patients per day. They work 4 days per week, just like the physicians, and are in the same after-hours call rotation. We expect them to see patients for about 7 hours of appointment time each day. The shifts are usually noon-8:00 p.m., or 11:00-7:00 p.m.. The rest of the time is for charting and other duties, and that is variable how long that takes each provider. The expectation is that the job takes 40 hours per week. Some do the work in less time, some take more. Our midlevels have a few of their own patients, but mostly they provide overflow for same-day visits, which tend to be the colds/flus and shorter visits.
Our client is designated a 5-Star Patient-Centered Primary Care Home in the state of Oregon - it's highest designation. For the past 6 years, we have been participating in CMS's Comprehensive Primary Care Initiative, which seeks to help practices achieve better care and better patient experience, while lowering the overall cost of care. Our designation as a PCPCH and selection for participation in the CPCI have been a recognition of our efforts to improve the quality of health care in our region and have helped provide continuing momentum for ongoing innovation.
Since the spring of 2007, we have been using the electronic medical record eClinical Works. This robust program allowed us to easily meet the Meaningful Use standards and is an excellent tool to help us to continue to innovative. Our main clinic has an in-house lab and X-ray along with 2 procedure rooms to complement our 24 exam rooms spread between 4 self-contained “pods.” We mentor medical students on primary care rotations from Oregon Health Sciences University and often have pre-med students from the University of Oregon following us in clinic.
Eugene-Springfield is the second largest metropolitan area in Oregon. It is the home of the University of Oregon and historic Hayward Field, site of the 2008 and 2012 US Olympic Track and Field Trials. Eugene-Springfield is located in the southern Willamette River valley and enjoys a moderate climate. The beautiful Oregon coast is about one hour to our west and the Cascade Mountains are one hour to the east offering an abundance of choices for the outdoor enthusiast.
