We are looking for a motivated and experienced Nurse Practitioner to join our Neurosurgical practice full time in Chicago, IL. We are a neurosurgical service with both inpatient and outpatient patient caseloads, with rounding and operating within a major hospital system in Chicago. The incoming provider will assist the attendings with inpatient rounds, clinic/office hours, and first assist within the operating room.

Under the supervision of the attending Neurosurgeon, the NP provides surgical first assist, care coordination by daily rounding in the hospital for neurosurgical patients, as well as office hours within the outpatient clinic. The provider will commit to the highest quality of care using an organized, multidisciplinary team approach to provide continuity of care throughout the inpatient and outpatient continuum. Our patient population served includes adults and geriatrics.

Duties:

  • Neurosurgical Inpatient care- rounding and new patient admissions
  • Coordination of care with surgical team, consults, referral sources, and hospital staff
  • Outpatient clinic hours
  • Assessing and managing inpatient census
  • Perform physical exams, obtain complete medical history, and record findings
  • Order appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures
  • Interprets and integrates data to determine preliminary diagnosis and therapeutic plan
  • Order/administer medication and injections as deemed medically necessary
  • Instructs patient/family regarding medications, post-surgical care and treatments
  • Educates patients regarding health and illness prevention
  • Collaborates with physicians in managing acute medical needs of patients
  • Maintains and reviews patient records, charts and other pertinent information
  • Posts tests and examination results
  • Triages patient telephone calls and provides consultation
  • Collaboration with other providers and supervisory physicians for comprehensive patient care
  • Discharge of patients from the hospital

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
  • NP license in IL
  • Must be able to first assist the neurosurgical team/attending physicians

Schedule:

  • Full time
