Minimum Qualifications

1. Education: Graduated from an accredited school of nursing. Minimum of a Master’s degree in Nursing required or is qualified by education and experience in behavioral health caring for the mentally ill. and assures the hospitals compliance with applicable standards, regulations and laws.
2. Experience: Five (5) years psychiatric nursing experience and supervisory experience required. Must have thorough working knowledge of health care nursing services with demonstrated ability to use skills in clinical managerial situations as a senior nurse executive.
3. License/Certification: Current RN licensure in the State of Florida and current CPR certification.
4. Skills: Excellent communication skills, ability to maintain effective working relationships, inter-departmentally, intra-departmentally, and with the medical staff. Demonstrates the ability to organize, delegate and role model manage the Nursing Team. Must have ability to communicate in both oral and written form and in a clean and concise manner. Must have a driving record that meets The Vines Hospital’s policy.
5. Physical Requirements: Work is demanding physically and mentally, walking and standing most of on-duty time. Must be able to meet the physical demands of lifting, moving over fifty (50) pounds, walking and standing for long periods of time.
6. Other: Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Chief Executive Officer or the Medical Director.
Position Summary
The Director of Nursing (DON) plans and monitors the delivery of quality patient care by the RNs, LPNs , Lead Mental Health Techs and Mental Health Techs. As supervisor of these staff members, the DON supervises the administration of the work schedule and assigns workload to the staff maximizing the strengths and abilities of the staff. The Director of Nursing has overall responsibility for managing, coordinating, supervising and implementing treatment programs and the delivery of services in an effective manner for the Adult Programs. The Director of Nursing has the authority to make staffing changes as necessary.

The DON serves on various organizational teams and/or committees and as a consultant to other departments. The DON monitors and assures the hospital’s compliance with applicable standards, regulations and laws. The DON consults with the Chief Executive Officer and accepts assignments as needed.
