Job Description

Position: Histology Manager/Supervisor​
Location: Cranford, NJ
Schedule: Monday-Friday 10A-6:30P

Job Information

  • Knowledgeable in the handling of specimens from accessioning to final specimen storage.
  • Assists the Manager with day-to-day administration of the Histology laboratory including staff development and training, writing and updating technical procedures for the Standard Operating Procedures Manual, and assisting in the administration of all Quality Control Programs.
  • Evaluates the performance of a designated histology group and assists with performance reviews.
  • Supervises the training of new hires and supervises a group of employees consisting of technical and specimen processors.
  • Schedules technical and processing workflow coverage.
  • Assists the Manager in handling client inquiries regarding technical matters and refers all unsolved problems to the supervisor. Assists product line leaders by responding to questions or problems.
  • Assumes the responsibilities of the department Manager as delegated.
  • Coordinates the technical and administrative phases of work in the histology group.
  • Reviews slides for overall quality of preparation such as staining intensity, proper coverslipping, and stain artifacts to help ensure an accurate diagnosis.
  • Provides input on revision of departmental systems, forms, procedures, policies and work areas. Maintains efficiency and accuracy in department operations. Evaluates new equipment and procedures.
  • Maintains adequate inventory of supplies. Makes recommendations regarding new products.
  • Maintains appropriate follow-up procedures necessary to determine and maintain the highest possible diagnostic accuracy within the department.

Requirements

  • Histotechnologist or Histotechnician license required. ASCP certification preferred.
  • Four to five years experience in Histology required with demonstrated leadership ability and strong supervisory skills.
  • Solid technical skills and a working knowledge of computers, laboratory organization, all departmental operational policies and procedures, Quality Control, Quality Assurance, and laboratory safety.
  • Considerable independent judgment is required.
