Job Description

We are currently seeking motivated Registered Nurse (RN) – MTU for The United States Department of Veteran Affairs Puget Sound Health Care System in Seattle, WA!

DUTIES:

  • The incumbent practices as a RN in the Emergency Department (ED) providing care to Veterans with acute and urgent medical problems and referrals to primary care for Veterans requesting long-term care.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have bachelor’s degree in nursing
  • Must currently have an active and unrestricted license from ANY state
  • Must have at least 2 years of experience in acute and chronic medical care practice in the emergency department
  • BLS, ACLS
  • 2 References 

Length of Assignment: 13 weeks with the likely potential to extend.

General experience required: 2 years recent (within the past 12 months) med/surg nursing practice or

experience in long term care, skilled facility or rehab.

On-call hours: None

Tour of duty: 80 hour pay period (two weeks) day, evening, or night shifts depending on work area to

include weekends. Shifts vary by location to include 8 hour, 9 hour, 10, hour or 12 hour. Tours of Duty

or a combination of shifts to meet 80 hours/pay period.

Overtime: Available, but not mandatory. Overtime – Hours over the 80-hour pay period (two weeks).

The pay period is the VA’s scheduled pay period and not the contractor’s pay period. In this manner VA

nurse managers can do normal scheduling with all RNs being scheduled, including contractor RNs.

Weekend work is not considered overtime unless there are hours over the 80-hours in the pay period (two

weeks).

Breaks and lunches: 15 minutes for each 4 hours worked and, with the exception of night shift, 30

minutes for mealtime.
