Job Description

School RN in Tribeca- its for pre schoolers from 2.5 to 5.5 years old.

The Washington Market School, a non-profit early childhood program serving children from 2-5 years old, seeks applicants for the position of School Nurse . The hours of this position will be Monday through Friday from 8:00-3:15, and will operate on a 12 month school calendar. Salary based on experience.

Job Description

The School Nurse will create and manage the school’s health office to ensure optimum health and safety of students by providing immediate medical care and information to maximize health and wellness in the school community. In addition, this role will provide wellness support through individual education and resource development for students, employees and parents.

Qualifications

Registered Nurse in New York State

CPR/First Aid/AED Certified

Knowledge of Microsoft Office and G Suite applications

Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, administration, and external agencies to maximize performance, problem solving and achieve results.

Willingness to learn and adapt to an early childhood program.

Experience in the private education sector; Independent school system a plus.

The role will provide daily care to students for injuries and acute illness as well as long-term management of students with chronic conditions

  • Support the arrival process following CDC/Department of Health Covid 19 protocols with staff and children. The role will include, but not limited to: checking staff health surveys each day and consulting with families about their child’s health when arriving to school in conjunction with teachers and administrators
  • Triage students for appropriate care, including health, injuries and Covid 19 signs and symptoms
  • Administer treatment, such as first aid and life saving medications within the scope of nursing practice following DOH regulations
  • In conjunction with the Site Directors and families, develop DOH approved Health Care plans for children with specific health needs (for example, allergies, asthma, diabetes, etc) and communicate this to necessary parties including teachers
  • Provide coordinated care for chronic conditions following individual health plans
  • Initiate referrals to physicians as needed
  • Communicate with parents; which includes but not limited to: calling about injuries, illness, answering questions about health, as well as posting communicable illness for the community as mandated by the Department of Health.
  • Maintain daily log of visits and document all provided care
  • Travel between buildings is necessary, as well as “teladoc” visits when needed.

Collection and review of yearly physical exam forms

  • Review immunizations and maintain immunization mandates following

Department of Health Guidelines

  • Identify and follow-up with abnormal findings in the health record
  • Enter data into File Maker (medical form received, immunizations and

medical alerts)

  • Maintain compliance with NYC Department of Health mandates and complete NY State immunization survey

Communication

  • Maintain confidentiality as directed by scope of practice, laws and as requested by families
  • Communicate with parents; which includes but not limited to: calling about injuries, illness, answering questions about health, as well as posting communicable illness for the community as mandated by the Department of Health.
  • Act as a liaison between health care professionals, school personnel and families
  • Inform Head of School, Site Directors, and CFO of any important health concerns or injuries
  • Review and submit all incident reports in conjunction with families to front desks

Health education and promotion in the community for faculty, staff and families

  • Conduct yearly training to faculty and staff on OSHA standards, basic first aid and emergency procedures
  • Promote the control of communicable diseases through preventive programs
  • Act as a resource for the school on health issues

Health office and school building health care needs

  • Order health supplies
  • Maintain AEDs (expiration dates, monthly checks, report any usage)
  • Maintain Epipens/Benadryl/Rescue Inhalers
  • Review and refill first aid bags/Individual Emergency Medical Bags for both sites
