Experience & Requirements

  • At least 2 years’ experience as a Registered Nurse
  • Active license as a Registered Nurse
  • Correctional experience preferred
  • Experience with addictions and substance use disorder preferred
  • CPR Certification

A background check, security clearance and drug screening are required for this role.

Responsibilities

Below is a list of your responsibilities as a RN Substance Abuse Specialist with YesCare:

  • Confirm Medication Assisted-Treatment dose verification from community-based addiction clinics or prescribers
  • Develops and schedules an addiction medicine clinic list based on referrals and consults received
  • Conduct an individualized patient assessment and develop plan of care with the addictions physician or provider
  • Implement clinical skills and administer medication via all approved routes, as ordered
  • Utilize pharmacology knowledge for all medications and with specific to full opioid agonist, partial opioid agonist and long-acting opioid antagonist
  • Practices the nursing process in planning care for the patients with substance use disorder
  • Utilize nursing knowledge, treatment protocols and resources to provide appropriate care for patients
  • Educate staff on addiction medicine, substance use disorder, medication-assisted treatment, process addictions and any substance use related topics
  • Communicate treatment services with other healthcare and correctional staff
  • Assist in emergencies, as necessary
  • Provide quality assurance by participating in chart audits and participates in data tracking and statistics
  • Report problems encountered with negative trends and non-compliance issues
  • Implement the policies and procedures required the MD Dept. of Public Safety and Correctional Services and MD regulations for Opioid Treatment Programs
  • Advocate for patient actively withdrawing from their substance use
  • Other duties assigned.
