HCW Qualifications:

 Degree/Education (5.2.4): See exhibit 5 Version 1.3 (17 Sep 18) and in addition HCW must have graduated from an Associate Degree (ADN) or a Baccalaureate Degree (BSN) program in nursing accredited by a national nursing accrediting agency recognized by the US Department of Education.
 Certifications in addition to Basic Life Support (5.2.3): See exhibit 5 Version 1.3 (17 Sep 18) and in addition, HCW must have and maintain certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
 Experience: See exhibit 5 Version 1.3 (17 Sep 18) and in addition a minimum of two years’ experience in Endoscopy within the last four years. Minimum of 2 years of experience in conscious sedation and post/anesthesia recovery. Must have knowledge of professional care theories, principles, practices, disease process and procedures to perform nursing assignments of moderate difficulty and experience to acutely ill pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients as appropriate. Utilizes the nursing process as a basis for professional practice; a variety of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment, the desired effects, side effects, and complications of their use as well as the accurate administration of the pharmacologic agent, including dosage calculations; administrative requirements for proper documentation of patients condition including disease progress, acknowledgement of teaching, and follow up care; a wide range of medical disorders and conditions as appropriate, as seen in critically ill patients; and preventative health schedules, procedures, processes, and education methods.
 Board Certification (5.2.6.4.4): None
 Licensure/Registration: See exhibit 5 Version 1.3 (17 Sep 18) and in addition, must maintain a valid, unrestricted, and current registered nurse license (with no limitations, stipulations, or pending adverse actions) in a state or territory of the United States or the District of Columbia. Must also provide evidence of continued professional education consisting of contact hours IAW the HCW’s State Board of Nursing requirements. If the HCW State Board of Nursing does not have contact hour requirements, at a minimum, the HCW will complete 20 contact hours every 2-years and participate in continuing education programs to update and/or maintain skills and knowledge to meet annual requirements.

HCW Duties (5.1 Task 1): The duties for the HCW are as follows:
o Procedures include assisting with endoscopy procedures, as needed, such as EGDs, Colonoscopies, prepping patients for procedures. Preferred, but not required to have experience with ERCPs and scope care.
o Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people for the purpose of informing the healthcare team of plans/actions, for teaching/education to benefit the patient/family and organization.
o Effectively uses appropriate communication format in addressing professional issues.
o Ability to perform clinical nursing duties such as telephone consults through telephone triage, and reporting patient’s pathological procedure results.
