Position Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This role directs and coordinates nursing care for patients based on nursing practice standards and collaborates with other healthcare professionals to provide quality, cost-effective, and efficient care for optimal patient outcomes. The RN serves as a resource person, applies age-specific considerations and cultural diversity in care, and is responsible for patients from birth to elderly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care using the nursing process
  • Direct and coordinate nursing care, collaborating with the healthcare team for best patient outcomes
  • Serve as a resource for clinical staff and support patient/family education.
  • Apply age-specific and culturally competent care to a diverse patient population.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with nursing standards and regulations
  • Supervise unit secretaries and patient care technicians in collaboration with the charge nurse.
  • Utilize medical and office equipment as appropriate for the position.
  • Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Practice nursing as described in Alaska statutes and regulations
  • Administer treatments, medications, interpret diagnostic tests, and provide patient/family education.
  • Maintain flexibility with work schedule and practice independent judgment within prescribed limits.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a nursing program from an NLN-approved institution.
  • Active and unrestricted RN license in Alaska (or eligibility upon acceptance).
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • Preferred: One year of RN experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Proficiency with office and medical equipment (e.g., computer, EKG).
  • Basic EKG and nursing skills; knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to work in a patient care setting and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication abilities.
