Job Description

The Air Force is currently seeking Flight Nurse positions. Flight Nurses provides professional medical-surgical nursing care within scope of practice, established standards of care and federal/state law. Provides comprehensive nursing care for patients during aeromedical evacuation (AE) flights. Coordinates with and makes recommendations to staff agencies concerning clinical care requirements and medical supplies and equipment required for patient care, AE policies, plans and programs. Supports clinical and operational research activities.

Flight Nurses must meet all requirements of a Clinical Nurse to qualify with the exception of a minimum of two years of RN experience in medical-surgical nursing. This exceeds the minimum one year requirement of other specialties because these nurses are expected to perform autonomously in an operational environment with limited resources. They must possess strong clinical skills and be able to manage multiple medical and/or surgical patients in an inpatient type environment. Must be current in BLS and ACLS. Prior military or civilian medical air transport experience desirable.
