WHAT YOU’LL DO
As an admissions nurse at VITAS Healthcare, you will be the first face of hospice for patients and families.
Your meeting will likely be the first time they have an in-depth discussion about end-of-life care, and your approach will set their expectations for the journey ahead.
With this in mind, you will:
- Travel to meet with patients and families
- Educate patients and families about the benefits of hospice care and the services offered by VITAS
- Ask questions and listen with empathy as you learn about each patient’s end-of-life needs, wants and beliefs
- Use this information to determine if hospice is the right path for the patient
- Ensure a comfortable transition for patients who elect to receive hospice care with VITAS
Working alongside your team, you will give your best each day in service of our core commitment: Delivering compassionate, personalized care with heartfelt empathy, honoring the wishes of each patient who entrusts VITAS with their end-of-life journey.
WHERE YOU’LL WORK
Most admissions nurses work four 10-hour shifts per week, but your schedule may vary.
You will spend your day traveling within your assigned service area. As calls arrive, you’ll go to hospitals, nursing facilities and patient residences to assess each patient’s need for care.
REQUIREMENTS
- Current RN license
- Reliable transportation
- Previous experience in a physician’s office, hospital, long-term care or assisted living facility
- Bachelor's degree preferred
