Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for planning, coordinating, and providing nursing care to patients on the Medical/Surgical Unit. This role focuses on delivering high-quality patient care while addressing age-related physiological, emotional, and cognitive needs of adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.

The RN participates in patient assessment, care planning, medication administration, monitoring physiological changes, and supporting psychosocial needs. The position also involves supervising and delegating patient care activities to ancillary personnel in accordance with their scope of practice.

Qualifications

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or equivalent required
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Licensure & Certifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved provider required

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care

• Provide nursing interventions in both routine and emergent patient situations.
• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and monitor changes in patient condition.
• Administer medications safely and accurately.
• Provide intravenous therapy, including blood product administration.
• Manage and maintain indwelling catheters, drains, and related equipment.
• Operate and monitor medical equipment such as glucose meters, IV pumps, and PCA machines.

Specialized Clinical Skills

• Epidural management.
• Care of acute post-operative wounds.
• Maintenance of sterile technique.
• Assessment of vascular patency.

Care Planning

• Develop and implement multidisciplinary, goal-oriented care plans.
• Collaborate with physicians and healthcare team members to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
• Evaluate and adjust care plans based on patient response and clinical needs.

Patient & Family Education

• Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatments, medications, and discharge planning.
• Utilize teaching methods appropriate to patient age, culture, condition, and learning readiness.

Leadership & Delegation

• Delegate patient care responsibilities to qualified ancillary personnel based on competency and scope of practice.
• Monitor delegated activities and ensure quality patient care standards are maintained.
