Registered Nurse II (RN II) – Oncology
Compensation: $90,000 to $110,000 (depending on experiences)
Location: Silver Spring, MD
Employment Type: Full-Time
Sign-On Bonus: $10,000
Position Overview
NurseAmerica is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse I & II to join a nationally recognized outpatient oncology practice. This role is ideal for nurses with a strong clinical foundation and oncology experience who are passionate about delivering compassionate, patient-centered cancer care.
The RN I & II provides professional nursing services in accordance with national standards, specialty regulations, and organizational guidelines while collaborating closely with an interdisciplinary care team.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, implement, and evaluate patient care to ensure continuity and quality outcomes
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including medical history, labs, imaging, and psychosocial needs
- Prepare and administer prescribed therapies under physician supervision
- Administer medications and blood products safely using correct protocols
- Perform venipuncture, access implanted ports, and maintain central venous devices
- Monitor treatment response and collaborate with providers on dose adjustments and symptom management
- Provide patient and family education, counseling, and psychosocial support
- Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation and charge capture
- Ensure all consents and authorizations are completed before treatment
- Assist with patient flow, scheduling, triage calls, referrals, and follow-up care
- Follow OSHA, infection control, and hazardous material handling guidelines
- Maintain equipment and treatment areas according to quality standards
- Serve as a mentor/preceptor to less experienced nursing staff
- Collaborate with clinical research and interdisciplinary teams
- Provide coverage at satellite locations as needed
- Participate in ongoing oncology education and professional development
Specialty Experience (Preferred)
Experience in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable:
- Infusion Nursing (chemotherapy/immunotherapy experience preferred)
- Radiation Oncology
- Gynecologic Oncology
- Transplant / Stem Cell Therapy
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited professional nursing program (BSN preferred)
- Active Maryland RN license or Compact
- Current BLS certification
- 3–5 years of nursing experience, including at least 1 year in oncology (preferred)
- Oncology certification preferred
- Strong clinical judgment, communication, and organizational skills
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Outpatient oncology/hematology clinical setting
- Possible exposure to radiation, cytotoxic agents, and communicable diseases
- Prolonged standing and walking
- Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs
- Manual dexterity and visual/hearing acuity required
