Job Description
A Travel Nurse is a Registered Nurse, that takes short-term assignments at healthcare facilities around the country that need extra help. While at the facility, the Travel Nurse provides patient care and works as part of the healthcare team. Travel Nurses can take positions in any department, so the specific duties and day-to-day tasks they complete vary based on the assignment.
Common duties and responsibilities include:
- Assessing patients and performing exams and tests.
- Taking patients’ vitals and recording that information.
- Administering medications or treatments in collaboration with Physicians.
- Collecting patient health history information.
- Educating patients on conditions and treatments.
- Preparing and maintaining medical equipment used for patients.
- Reporting patient vitals and observations to Doctors to collaborate on treatment options.
- Supporting patients’ emotional needs.
Basic skills and qualifications:
- Effective communication skills with patients and other healthcare providers.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Flexibility to work in different departments and take on tasks assigned in each location.
- Technology skills to use various medical equipment and software programs.
- Empathy and patience.
- Understanding discretion and protecting confidentiality.
- Ability to respond quickly and calmly in emergencies.
Experience and Requirements:
- One to two years of experience in nursing.
- Strong nursing skills.
- Additional one to two years or more experience in Specialty of assignment.
License and Certifications:
- Current RN License in State of assignment.
- Additional certifications may be needed based on assigned departments.
