Position: RN/LPN Medical Staff Associate

Position Summary:
  • The Medical Staff Associate is responsible for evaluating donor suitability for automated pheresis procedures and administering approved immunizations.
  • They also provide limited emergency medical care to donors and staff.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Establish and maintain positive customer relations with all donors.
  • Conduct confidential and thorough interviews with donors to assess their suitability for plasma donation.
  • Collaborate with the Center Medical Director and/or Center Physician to address medically related questions and issues from staff.
  • Perform medical history reviews and health assessments on donors to determine initial and ongoing suitability for donation.
  • Notify and counsel donors regarding reactive test results, referring them to appropriate follow-up facilities as needed.
  • Explain informed consent procedures to donors, ensuring comprehension and obtaining necessary signatures.
  • Provide routine medical care during emergencies as outlined in Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), escalating situations when necessary.
  • Review test results and make decisions regarding donor suitability, following SOPs for four-month approvals.
  • Assess signs and symptoms that may affect a donor's ability to continue donating.
  • Manage employee hepatitis B and influenza immunization programs, including administration.
  • Oversee donor immunization programs and maintain awareness of appropriate immunization schedules.
  • Ensure accurate recording of donor data in electronic management systems.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, adhering to safety protocols and procedures.
  • Uphold confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.
  • May receive cross-training in other areas as needed.
  • Bilingual skills may be required based on business needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Graduation from a nursing program.
  • Possession of a current Arizona State Registered Nurse OR Licensed Practical Nurse license
  • Minimum of one year of experience in a healthcare environment.
  • Experience in a plasma or whole blood collection center or regulated environment preferred.
  • Ability to conduct physical assessments and instruct donors and staff on plasma donation benefits.
Working Conditions:
  • Ability to make decisions with moderate impact.
  • Understanding and application of oral and/or written instructions.
  • Physical ability to perform tasks such as standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Exposure to hazardous chemicals, extreme temperatures, and bloodborne pathogens.
  • Requirement to wear Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Availability for overtime and extended hours as needed.
