One of the leading hospitals in Glens Falls, NY is seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse Examiner to join their team as the SANE Staff Nurse in the Emergency Department! Department

The Emergency Department is one of the busiest in the Northeast, servicing 46,000 patients annually. The Emergency Department is comprised of 46 treatment spaces including 32 monitored treatment spaces, seven dedicated to an internal Crisis Stabilization Unit, and four dedicated to Behavioral Health.

Services provided but are not limited to: Evaluation and stabilization of acute/ urgent/emergent medical conditions as well as trauma, and chronic conditions. The ED also services the needs of our mental health population, acute crisis stabilization, sexual assault victims, extensive cardiac, neurologic, orthopedic, and dental.

Description:

In this position, you will be an important member of the patient care team, especially patients who are survivors of sexual Assault. As the SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) Registered Nurse (RN), you will be responsible for responding to sexual assault and intimate partner violence survivors of all ages at our Emergency Care Center. This role is vital for providing critical and compassionate medical and forensic care for survivors of sexual assault or domestic violence. Taken together, your work will be fundamental to patients in your care and the community in our service area.

Responsibilities:

  • Complete competency checklist while being observed by an experienced nurse examiner
  • Complete continuing education annually, regarding the issues of sexual assault and forensic examinations
  • Maintains DOH NYS SAFE certification
  • Follow policies, procedures and protocols for the program
  • Attend or sign off on monthly meeting minutes
  • Participate in documentation and evaluation process with SANE coordinators or manager
  • Assure all activities performed adhere to established SANE guidelines
  • Maintain close working relationship with SANE team members and other members of other disciplines in the care of sexual assault survivors
  • Maintain equipment and supplies in examination room after use
  • Maintains records and statistics, as appropriate
  • Takes on-call shifts as scheduled, responding within 60 minutes of the initial call
  • Sexual assault nurse examiners agree to a minimum of 32 hours per month. Each nurse examiner will also be on call at least one holiday each calendar year. (Holidays are defined as Christmas, Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day and Thanksgiving.)
  • Submit on-call availability to SANE Coordinator to facilitate on-call scheduling
  • Maintain contact with the SANE Coordinator for at least 1 year after termination of contract and respond to any and all subpoenas for cases examined while employed with the SANE
  • Respond to court ordered subpoenas
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from a Registered Professional Nursing Program
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of New York
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing is preferred; new hires will be required to complete their BSN within 5 years of hire (RNs with 20+ years of experience may be eligible to opt for certification completion rather than BSN).
  • Successfully competition of training at a recognized SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) Program for adult/pediatric populations required
  • DOH NYS SAFE certification required
  • IAFN Intimate Partner Violence Nurse Certificate Program completed within 1 year of hire

Experience/Abilities:

  • At least one year of medical-surgical or acute care/hospital nursing experience required
  • At least one year of forensic nursing experience required
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Maintains competency in professional nursing practices
  • Knowledge of standard health care reporting measures required
  • Ability to recognize patient care problems and to react appropriately in patient care emergencies
  • Ability to plan and organize work autonomously
  • Ability to liaison with other human service agencies, clients, personnel and individuals in related programs
  • Demonstrated initiative, resourcefulness and good judgment in executing the role and responsibilities of a nurse examiner required

Salary Range

The expected base rate for this Glens Falls, New York, United States-based position is $32.00 to $58.74 per hour. Exact rate is determined on a case-by-case basis commensurate with exp­­erience level, as well as education and certifications pertaining to each position which may be above the listed job requirements.
