Job Description

Danville is the principal city of the Danville [Register to View] , which encompasses all of Danville and Vermilion County, Danville is located approximately 120 miles south of Chicago.


POSITION DEFINITION:
Under general supervision, and in accordance with physician’s orders, the registered nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation of the nursing care provided for all assigned patient/clients. The RN is responsible for meeting the OSF St. Mary Medical Center’s standards of nursing care, standards of nursing practice, and the nursing service policies and procedures in conjunction with other members of the health care team.

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

REQUIREMENTS:
Licensed RN in State of Illinois
CPR certified
NRP certified (within 6 months)
Willing to work all shifts
Demonstrates good organizational skills and ability to set priorities
Demonstrates ability to work efficiently with High Risk Mothers and Infants in a Level II Perinatal Center
Interested in patient teaching and professional growth
Willing to learn and work all 3 areas.

DESIRABLE:
Member of AWHONN
Member of P.A.I.
Current/Previous/OB/Gyn experience

JOB KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Willing and able to work all shifts.

Willing to attend in-services and educational workshops.


VI. PERFORMANCE OF ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS

1. Completes and documents the admission and ongoing assessment of all assigned patients as outlined in the nursing practice standards.

2. Formulates, documents, and reviews the admission nursing diagnosis, based on the assessment data, identifying an individual’s actual and potential needs which nurses can identify and treat.

3. Initiates, documents, and maintains a plan of care for an assigned patient that is consistent with the medical plan of care.

4. Initiates, completes, and/or coordinates actions necessary to accomplish the defined behavioral outcomes and goals communicating the patient’s plan of care accurately and concisely to all health care/support team members. Systematically appraises the patient’s response to the plan of care and recognizes any need for revision.

5. Evaluates educational needs and implements appropriate teaching plan with patient/family.

6. Serves as patient advocate in area of pain management.
7. Leads and directs other staff; assumes responsibility to facilitate integrated patient care and delegates appropriately.

8. Displays a positive attitude and demonstrates a willingness to improve performance.

9. Assumes responsibility for insuring professional growth and practices within legal and ethical guidelines for nursing practice.

10. Completes the hospital’s general and unit specific orientation programs and completes the required education programs annually.

11. Demonstrates the ability to work with newborns to geriatrics depending on assigned department.

12. Meets Unit specific criteria.
a. Possesses current comprehensive knowledge and skills to provide safe and effective care in a Level II Obstetrical/Gyne Unit.
b. Certified in CPR and Neonatal Resuscitation.
c. Attends required inservices.
d. Completes required competencies.
e. Consistently assesses situations appropriately and provides correct interventions.
f. Knowledgeable of department’s policies, procedures, and state regulations.
g. Skilled with equipment in L&D, Post Partum, and Nursery.
h. Proficient starting IV’s specific to Obstetrics.
i. Actively participates in unit efforts to improve nursing practice.
j. Involves Social Services and Home Health in discharge planning.
k. Knowledgeable in transfers to other services.
l. Acclimates to 2 and/or 3 areas of obstetrics.
m. Knowledgeable about meds specific to Obstetric population.
n. Labor and Delivery.
o. Certified in fetal monitoring. (External and Internal) with competency if applicable.
p. Skilled in labor management, C-Sections and Recovery, Circulating and/or scrubbing.
q. EKG class/code blue class.
