Join our team of talented professionals providing healthcare services to Military Service Members and their families at the Navy Medicine Readiness & Training Unit in Groton, CT.

  • Setting: Clinical Area: PDHRA
  • Summary: The NP (Physician Extender) at the the Deployment Health Center will support the readjustment of returning service members and their dependents by providing resources, services, and skills to facilitate a successful transition to home life and military duties.
  • Compensation: $70.00 -74.00 per hour (salaried position, 40 hours per week)
  • Sign on bonus eligible role!
  • Schedule: Monday - Friday. No nights, no weekends, no-on call!

Nurse Practitioner/Physician Extender Specific Duties

Phone Triage and Ambulatory Care Assistance:

  • Perform phone triage based on accepted protocols.
  • Assist in accessing appropriate ambulatory/emergency care for beneficiaries as needed.
  • Delegate tasks and duties appropriately in clinical direction and coordination of health care team members and clinic activities.

Counseling and Health Teaching:

  • Provide individual, group, and family/significant other counseling.
  • Conduct health teaching related to the patient's condition and self-care ability.

Health Care Planning:

  • Formulate health care plans emphasizing self-care responsibility through patient, family, physician, and other healthcare professional involvement.

Family Planning Management:

  • Provide assessment, education, and management of family planning.

Additional Duties include:

  • Participate in peer review and performance improvement activities.
  • Practice aseptic techniques and comply with infection control guidelines.
  • Function with awareness and application of safety procedures.
  • Perform efficiently in emergency patient situations following established protocols.
  • Anticipate and intervene in potential problems/emergencies.
  • Apply awareness of legal issues in patient care to manage situations with reduced risk.
  • Participate in the implementation of the Family Advocacy Program as directed.
  • Exercise awareness and sensitivity to patient/significant others' rights.
  • Maintain responsibility and accountability for own professional practice.
  • Perform timely, accurate, and concise documentation of patient care.
  • Maintain documentation of all treatment provided in accordance with clinic directives.
  • Operate and manipulate automated systems such as electronic health record and databases.
  • Maintain DOD email account and respond to all communications promptly.

Nurse Practitioner/Physician Extender Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • Master's degree in nursing from an accredited program recognized by ACEN or CCNE.
  • Certification by ANCC, AANP, or recognized national nursing certification organization.
  • DEA registration number
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted RN license
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) healthcare provider certification

Experience:

  • 1 year of experience in the last 2 years working as a Nurse Practitioner in the care of adult patients.
