Matrix Providers is hiring a Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our team of talented professionals who provide health care services to our Military Service Members and their families at San Antonio Military Medical Center, JBSA Ft. Houston, Department of Family & Community Medicine in Sam Houston, Texas.
- Employment Status: Full-time
- Compensation: This is a salaried position, paid bi-weekly
- Schedule: Monday through Friday between 6:00 am to 8:00 pm, you may be required to work Saturdays based on workload requirements. The shift length will be 8 hours, but it may vary. However, the healthcare worker will not be scheduled to work more than 40 hours weekly. Compensatory time and overtime are not authorized.

Requirements: The Nurse Practitioner (NP) must have and meet the following:
- Degree: Master's degree in nursing.
- Education: Graduate from an academic program within the nursing specialty field of study accredited by a regional or national nursing accrediting agency recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
- Certification:
- Certified in Family Practice as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), or the recognized national nursing certification organization for the specialty area of practice as appropriate (for example, National Certification Board of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners and Nurses, American Nurses Association, National Certification Corporation for the Obstetric, Gynecologic, and Neonatal Specialties).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association or American Red Cross. Web-based classes do not meet these standards.
- Experience: A minimum of one year experience within the past three years practicing as a PA or NP in an appropriate family practice/primary care area.
- Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse.
Job Summary:
- Please provide a full range of Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner services in primary and specialty medical care within the limits of their training and privileges granted by the Medical Treatment Facility (e.g., supervise and provide general screening and medical care and examinations of patients for routine, acute and chronic conditions involving any and all organ systems; provide immunizations; diagnose, treat, and counsel patients as indicated)
- The healthcare worker will have to demonstrate sufficient experience to be able to diagnose and treat diseases and injuries to include, but not limited to, the following: Skin, Head, Eyes, Ears, Nose, Throat/Mouth, Neck, Cardiovascular System, Pulmonary System,
Gastrointestinal System, Lymphatic System, Muscular Skeletal System, Genitourinary System,
Reproductive System, Psychiatric Disease, Central Nervous System, Endocrine System, and
Peripheral Nervous System. - The healthcare worker will have to demonstrate sufficient experience to be able to perform medical procedures to include, but not limited to, the following: Nail Trephination, Sling or swath injuries / Bandaging, Stabilize dislocations and fractures when appropriate, Stabilize and evaluate cervical spine injuries as appropriate, Removal of foreign bodies as appropriate, Perform venous punctures for lab studies and interpret results, Suture superficial lacerations / Remove Sutures
- Secure and maintain an adequate airway by such means as oral tracheal airways; oral tracheal intubation; nasal/tracheal intubation; crico-thyrotorny (needle and surgical)
- Splint and stabilize traumatic injuries to extremities, Administer intravenous, intramuscular, and subcutaneous medications as appropriate; secure and maintain adequate intravenous access by peripheral and central routes, Bladder catheterization, and Local anesthesia
- The healthcare worker will have to demonstrate sufficient experience to be able to perform
miscellaneous tasks to include, but not limited to, the following:- Consult with consultant appropriately, Provide medical advice over the telephone, Demonstrate sufficient expertise in using common computer devices and systems (including typing), Complete all required paperwork, Perform military physical examinations, Obtain an adequate history, physical, assessment, and plan in a timely and appropriate manner on each patient and develop a treatment plan, Utilize paraprofessional staff as appropriate, Respond to cardiopulmonary arrest as appropriate and arrange appropriate backup from Medical Treatment Facility staff Interpret electrocardiograms, Preliminarily interpret plain radiographs.
- Provide a full range of outcome-based nurse practitioner services by privileges granted by the MTF (e.g., supervise and provide general screening and medical care and examinations of patients for routine, acute, and chronic conditions involving any and all organ systems; provide immunizations; diagnose, treat, and counsel patients as indicated).
- Technically direct and teach other staff, provide evidenced-based educational lectures and participate in in-service training for staff members.
- Diagnose and treat patients with common acute conditions, chronic illnesses, or minor trauma within accepted protocols, clinical practice guidelines, Nurse Practice Acts, and in consultation with a physician.
- Promote preventive care and health maintenance, including annual physicals, positive health behaviors, and self-care through formal and individual education and counseling.
- Communicate and collaborate with a diverse group to inform the healthcare team of plans/actions for teaching/education to benefit the patient/family and organization.
- Recognize conditions that require isolation and ensure universal precautions are used in all patient encounters.
- Attend staff meetings to provide case discussion, continuing education, and continuous quality improvement and safety.
