Job Description

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is accountable for conducting psychiatric assessments and diagnostic procedures for patients, adhering to established standards of practice. Responsibilities include evaluating and documenting identified medical issues, reporting them promptly to the supervising physician.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintain comprehensive patient records, encompassing nurse’s notes, medication records, physician order forms, assessments, and other essential documentation.

Prescribe psychotropic medication following established prescriptive practice guidelines.

Adhere to Universal Precautions for Infection Control and proper procedures for the disposal of sharps.

Participate in treatment planning sessions, clinical case reviews, and in-service training programs.

Adhere to the professional staff code of ethics.

Engage in clinical supervision sessions with a supervising psychiatrist in line with Practice and Prescriptive Guidelines.

Perform any other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

The following requirements represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the job.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. Documented completion of an advanced nursing mental health education program approved by a national professional nursing accrediting body.

Experience: Documented experience in conducting psychiatric evaluations and diagnostic procedures. Knowledge of behavioral health and the ability to provide treatment consistent with professional care standards.

Skills: Demonstrated interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with staff, management, and other professionals to achieve program objectives.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations: Current licensure in Massachusetts as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and certification by a nationally recognized accrediting body approved by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing. Current registration with the Drug Enforcement Agency and the Massachusetts Controlled Substance Registration Board.
