Job Description

Seeking a highly experienced and skilled Director of Labor Relations to join our organization in New York. The Director, Labor Relations will be responsible for coordinating and directing employee relations programs and functions. The primary focus of this role will be labor relations, including contract negotiations, policy interpretation, disciplinary issues, and labor/management relations. The incumbent will also collaborate with other HR departments as needed and provide consultation to management on human resource-related issues. The Director will oversee employee and labor relations activities, compliance management, investigations, and training.

Compensation: $115,000 - $120,000

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and direct employee relations programs and functions in accordance with the organization's mission, values, and goals.
  • Lead labor relations activities, including negotiation of collective bargaining agreements, handling union and non-union grievances, and maintaining satisfactory labor/management relations.
  • Provide counsel to management on contract interpretation, policy implementation, and guidance on various HR issues.
  • Collaborate with union and management executive leadership to collect, analyze, and interpret data supporting projects and strategic goals.
  • Manage employee relations process, conduct thorough investigations to address and resolve employee issues and complaints, and develop strategies and work plans.
  • Mentor and coach senior and general managers, advising and assisting them in identifying and addressing labor relations issues and maintaining effective relationships with employee union organizations.
  • Stay updated on employee and labor relations trends, legal rulings, and statutory changes, conducting research as necessary to support contract negotiations and compliance with regulations/laws.
  • Conduct training for newly hired employees on compliance, confidentiality, and other HR and labor regulatory training topics.
  • Regularly review HR policies and procedures, recommending updates based on new laws and regulations.
  • Provide guidance and input on business unit restructures, workforce planning, and succession planning.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree is required.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in an HR generalist role with a strong labor relations background.
  • SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) credential, or ability to obtain certification within one year of employment.
  • Exceptional business acumen and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong consultation skills and ability to provide ethical practice in labor relations.
  • Demonstrated global and cultural awareness.
  • Proficient in HR expertise, relationship management, and supervision as necessary.
